The American Dental Association Recommends having a routine dental exam and cleaning performed every six months. The dental exams administered at Family Dental Associates in Miami, Oklahoma, are designed to remove all traces of tartar from your teeth, while also monitoring the wide range of factors that contribute to maintaining good oral health.

The dental cleaning portion of the appointment, calls for one of Dr. Folks and Dr. Keim’s dental hygienists to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. This will then be followed by a simple dental polishing to remove surface stains from your teeth.

Our dentists will then examine your mouth for any signs of gum disease, cavities, or oral cancer. If they find an area of concern, they will present you with the more effective method for treating or preventing future problems.

Even if there are no new cavities, Drs. Folks and Keim might recommend a fluoride treatment to bolster the strength of your tooth enamel. This can help prevent cavities and other tooth decay complications before your next dental exam.

The treatment will expose your tooth enamel to concentrated fluoride which will help remineralize your tooth enamel. Our dentists pour a small amount of concentrated fluoride gel into special trays. You will need to hold them in your mouth, along with a small suction wand, for a few minutes.

You should avoid eating or drinking for at least half an hour afterward to allow the fluoride to deeply saturate your teeth.

If you live in the Miami, Oklahoma, area and you are due for your next dental exam and cleaning, you should call 918-542-3337 to schedule an appointment at Family Dental Associates.
